Hey punks, it is time for us at Punk Rock Philosophy towers to share our picks of the new releases for your consideration! Maybe it is the fact the seasons are changing and the evenings are getting lighter but there’s a real retro and melodic theme to our picks this week.
Have a listen to the best in new punk tracks and expand your Spring playlist!
Tricie and the Phantom Punks- ‘Saw Serenade‘
OK, so even though we were just saying about how Spring has sprung, in the world of horror punk it is perpetually Halloween. And we’re here for it! We couldn’t resist this spooky bop from Texas’ own Tricie and the Phantom Punks, a single paying homage to one of the classic horror flicks ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘. Frontwoman Tricie’s theatrical vocals stay true to the genre’s penchant for drama and good ol’ bloody fun and the music bounces along at a great sing-a-long pace. If you want to experience “dying with the dead” then stream the track HERE.
Cheerbleederz- ‘Everything is Going Great‘
London indie punk trio Cheerbleederz release this cracking cover of Tiny Stills’ ‘Everything is Going Great‘ and it is a 90s-inspired treat for the ears. Cheerbleederz are heading out on tour with LA rockers Tiny Stills across the UK next month and to mark the occasion, their friends from across the pond covered their track ‘Nail Biters‘. Now Cheerbleederz have turned the tables and given their own spin on their friend’s track, just before they embark on their 8-date sweep of the UK. Commenting on the cover, Cheerbleederz said: “We hope everyone’s been rinsing Tiny Stills’ cover of ‘nail biters’, now the cat is out the bag! We’re so excited to share our cover of their song ‘Everything Is Going Great’! We’ve never had anyone cover our song before and it was such a lovely thing to have done before we tour together in April”. Check out the tour dates and get tickets HERE and make sure you go back and listen to the band’s 2025 EP ‘Prove Me Wrong‘ whilst you’re there.
Tigers Jaw- ‘Breezer‘
Another retro-inspired tune now with Tigers Jaw’s latest single from the band’s anticipated new LP ‘Lost on You‘, due out 27th March via Hopeless Records. ‘Breezer‘ is the fourth single from the LP and is accompanied by an impressively cinematic video that sees vocalist Brianna Collins wandering in solitude through palatial and otherworldly scenes. The track itself has an enticing and rousing fragility thanks to Collins dreamy vocals but the ever-present guitar riff adds a spiky edge that stops the track ever becoming too soft. Of the song, Collins explains: “I tend to romanticize past versions of myself in moments of uncertainty, while also finding comfort in life’s unpredictability. ‘BREEZER’ is about the ebb and flow of insecurity, doubt, and escapism, and my gradual acceptance of the cyclical nature of these feelings.” You can stream the single HERE and pre order ‘Lost On You‘ HERE.
Sincere Engineer- ‘Cooler‘
Chicago’s punk superstar Sincere Engineer (Deanna Belos) is a firm favourite here at Punk Rock Philosophy. Her phenomenal 2023 album ‘Cheap Grills‘ is still on regular rotation here and so we’re thrilled that new music keeps coming and new track ‘Cooler‘ does not disappoint. It is quintessentially Belos in every way- her trademark powerful vocals weaves a tale of anxiety and self deprecation and the feeling that she’s just on the cusp of getting her shit together. Could this be a taster of album number 4? Let’s hope so. Stream HERE.
The Red Bastards- ‘Bad Blood‘
Welsh punks The Red Bastards have been tearing up the punk scene since they formed during the pandemic, and have established themselves as the kind of gruff, no-nonsense rockers that have propped up the DIY scene for years. Their new track ‘Bad Blood‘ is everything they do well- it’s fast, no frills, unapologetic, old school rawk. This is clearly a band that love punk and love to be part of it and with a second album on the horizon, we’re not going to be saying goodbye to these highwaymen yet! Stream the single HERE.
Banda AL9- ‘She Can Do It All‘
Now for something completely different! OK, we’d be the first to admit this track is not ‘punk’ in the strictest sense of the word BUT….we just can’t resist this absolutely joyous ear worm from Brazilian duo Banda AL9. This track signals they are well and truly off the starting block in the US where this song marks their first official American single release and arrives amid a surge of stateside momentum that includes a triumphant New York City debut. The band formed in 2017 and is comprised of brothers Matheus Khouri (vocals, lead guitar) and Thiago Khouri (vocals, bass), and their brand of 60s guitar pop with modern indie is for those who like something sweet, catchy and showcasing classic melodic songwriting. ‘She Can Do It All‘ is the first taste of the band’s forthcoming album, ‘Hey! Hey! We’re Banda AL9‘, due July 17. You can stream the single and pre order the album HERE.
Various Artists- ‘Green Day Tribute Comp‘
Aaaaand finally a dream release for every 90s pop punk fan and animal lover! Coffin Curse Records are following up on the success of their Operation Ivy tribute compilation with this new epic release of 60 bands covering 60 Green Day songs. The tracklist is expansive and even the snootiest Green Day fan (like me) is impressed with the scope of the songs that cover every GD era and corners of their back catalogue. It is also a great way of discovering some super cool new bands from across the world AND all of the proceeds from the sale of these albums will be donated to no-kill animal rescues. Could this tick any more boxes? You can purchase your copies, ogle the badass artwork and scrutinise the track choices HERE (for US) and HERE (for Europe).
