Picks of the Week! January Edition

January blues got ya down? Never fear! Your Punk Rock Philosophy friends give you the gift of new music with our picks of the week January playlist.

Venus Grrrls- ‘3X3‘

If you accept the Venus Grrrls’ invitation to express your feminine rage then whack on their new track- the grungy, confrontational ‘3X3‘ and unleash your dark impulses! The song marks both the band’s first release for alt-rock label Killabop and the label’s very first release. The accompanying atmospheric video is imbibed with the band’s affinity to The Hex Girls of Scooby-Doo fame, as well as nods to ‘The Love Witch’ and Hammer horror. Stomping percussion propels the jagged riffs and cinematic vocals to make a sound that oozes power and drama. Based between Leeds, Newcastle and Liverpool, the five-piece force of nature are touring with Nova Twins this Spring, so prepare for their punk coven to hit your town! Stream the new single HERE.

Homebase- ‘Nuff Said‘

The new track by New York/New Jersey pop punk slash hardcore band Homebase is the perfect tune to kick off a January playlist. It’s ferociously punchy and energetic which will give us all some much needed energy to start off 2026 but it’s also rife with angst and “bottled up misery” which is basically the month of January in a nutshell? So it kind of scratches two types of itch. ‘Nuff Said‘ follows their recent single ‘Bold‘ and emerged from a flood of early ideas whilst the band were demoing material for a potential EP. Vocalist Antonio Valentino says of ‘Nuff Said‘: “This song was our chance to confront those feelings of inadequacy head-on. It’s not about who you are that defines you—it’s about what you do. We love the hype it brings, and we couldn’t be more proud to finally share it.” ‘Nuff Said‘ is out now and you can stream it HERE.

Chroma- ‘Straight Men‘

Welsh trio Chroma celebrate the announcement of their second album ‘25 Forever‘ (out on 17th April 2026) by dropping their acerbic and topical new single ‘Straight Men‘. Taking on the toxic impacts of the manosphere, the new track addresses the epidemic of violence against women and girls and the radicalisation of young men via the internet and certain influencers. Vocalist KT Hall channels the negative feelings and experiences that she had throughout her teens and adulthood at the hands of adult males and the result is this sonically urgent new track. ‘Straight Men‘ is accompanied by a thought-provoking video shot at St Joseph’s Boxing Gym, Newport, South Wales. Stream ‘Straight Men‘ HERE.

Marc Valentine- ‘NY UAP‘

Something RELENTLESSLY poppy and retro now- it’s the new power pop singalong by London’s Marc Valentine. ‘NY UAP‘ is a sugar rush of hooks and harmonies with a bit of nostalgia thrown in. It’s almost impossible to listen to this bop without smiling and shimmying of some description. The release also marks the official launch of pre-orders for Valentine’s newly announced album, ‘Uncommon Side Effects‘, due out on April 10. You can stream the new single and pre order the album HERE.

Ultrabomb- ‘Checked Out‘

The punk rock mega trio that is Ultrabomb have unleashed a fantastic new single ‘Checked Out‘ – a precursor to their album ‘The Bridges That We Burn‘ which is scheduled for release on 3rd April. The track is characteristically fast, loud and full of melodic hooks- a catchiness that has been crafted by a group with decades of punk rock experience between them. Comprised of Greg Norton (Hüsker Dü), Derek O’Brien (Social Distortion, Agent Orange, Adolescents) and Ryan Smith (Soul Asylum), the band have lived the punk rock life and then some. That’s probably what inspired the new track which reflects on themes of burnout, transition and knowing when to let go. Bassist and vocalist Greg Norton explains: “Checked Out was inspired by life on the road, but there are many things we check out of. Sometimes in life you just need to move on.” You can stream ‘Checked Out‘ HERE.
