Hello punk fans! It’s surely time for you to be updating your listening options and get some new LPs in your regular rotation. So to give you a head start, Punk Rock Philosophy has pulled together some of our favourite new full length releases that will get you through the rest of the Summer!
Sincere Engineer- ‘Probable Claws‘
2023’s ‘Cheap Grills‘ by Chicago’s finest Sincere Engineer is one of PRP’s favourite punk albums of the last five years. So the new album by Deanna Belos and Co. has been hotly anticipated not just here in Punk Rock Philosophy towers, but by the wider scene in which Sincere Engineer are very much beloved. The single ‘Cooler‘ was our first introduction to the new material and from that track we knew that the album was going to be a triumph and we weren’t wrong. There’s the consistent energy and charm that Sincere Engineer does so well, the complex melodies and self deprecating, down-to-earth lyrics. There’s a fair bit more melancholic introspection in this record than in its predecessor with tracks like ‘DNA‘ and ‘LOL‘ adding some real depth and showcasing a band really growing into themselves and embracing new directions. ‘Probable Claws‘ is out NOW and you can purchase HERE.
Julez and the Rollerz- ‘Dirty Little Rock ‘N’ Roller‘
A bit of glam, retro-nodding rock for you now with the irrepressibly sumptuous Julez and The Rollerz. Formed in 2021 by vocalist/guitarist Jules Batterman with a rotating lineup of collaborators, Julez and the Rollerz quickly carved out a presence in the Los Angeles underground scene with their high-energy live shows and genre-blurring early material. Their 2023 EP ‘Is This Where The Party Is?‘ was a nod to the garage band/LA underground scene and with their new full length debut album, they’re embracing the fun sensuality of glam rock and the drama of power pop alongside some impressive riffs. The overall subject matter has moved on from the ‘let’s party’ themes of their earlier EP to consider what comes next when you have to get up and look in the mirror. But even if the lyrics have matured and the sound has become tighter, this is still a feelgood record and not one you want to sleep on. Stand out tracks for us are ‘I Need Love‘, ‘Always Hard 4 U‘ and opening track ‘Time’. Stream/buy the album HERE.
Sweet Gloom- ‘No Love Lost’
LA’s Sweet Gloom are back with a second album ‘No Love Lost’ via Sneak Dog Records. This album has more of a raw sound and frenetic pace throughout than their 2023 debut ‘Reverie‘ but it still retains that thing that makes Sweet Gloom such a standout act in modern punk. Their fusion of old school melodies, harmonies and swinging rhythms are a treat to the ears and makes their sound oscillate between the Ramones and a 60s pop group. ‘No Love Lost‘ veers a little bit more to the Ramones end of things with tracks like opener ‘Last’ and ‘Leave Me Alone‘ being quick-paced no frills punk rock, but then songs like ‘Never Be Mine‘, ‘You and Eye‘ and lead single ‘Box Dye‘ are gloriously packed full of retro melodies and vocal styles. Sweet Gloom are always a winner here at Punk Rock Philosophy and we think you’ll love this new offering. ‘No Love Lost’ is out on 21/08/26 and you can preorder HERE.
Compandas- ‘Tropical Finasteride‘
Pittsburgh punks Compandas are bringing back the golden age of blog-era Brooklyn, committing to a psychedelic, joyful DIY sound with their album ‘Tropical Finasteride‘ out via Lauren Records. There’s surreal and irreverent audio clips cheekily scattered around tracks of instrumental contrasts, where fuzzed-out bass guitars and clipping drum beats back more whimsical instrumental choices like glockenspiels and toy keyboards. There’s burnout humour here for sure and a lot of fun but the album isn’t without it’s depth and topical references. ‘Kill All Cops‘ has a great poppy bounce while still highlighting the epidemic of injustice that plagues the United States. ‘Theme Song to Compandas‘ espouses that “hot girls say ‘free Palestine‘” while also reminding you to brush your teeth and eat your veggies. This is a ultra cool slice of indie punk that makes you feel all fuzzy inside. Buy/stream the album HERE.
The Menzingers- ‘Everything I Ever Saw‘
Punk legends The Menzingers are back with their eight studio album ‘Everything I Ever Saw‘ out via Epitaph. The band have had quite the eventful few years, the ups and downs very much captured and chronicled in this new release. While Greg Barnett (vocals/guitar) got married and welcomed his first child, Tom May (vocals/guitar) got divorced and navigated new emotional territory both in and outside of the band. “We’re no strangers to writing about breakups, but divorce is different,” he says. “There’s a weirdness to it that cuts so much deeper and hurts much more.” It’s a strong and powerful album from a band well into their career and that tightness and experience shows. Lead single ‘Better Angels’ is pretty anthemic and the title track which was also released as a single closes the album in reflective fashion (“I’ll take the good with the bad/ the happy with the sad“). That lyric pretty much sums up the duality of the album’s vibes which reflects the vastly different personal circumstances of the two frontmen, allowing the album to be neither purely melancholy nor ecstatic but something very relatably in between. The album is out NOW, head HERE to buy.
Taxi Girls- ‘Static‘
If you love the gritty crunch of those badass 90s/00s bands like Hole and Distillers then you are gonna love the debut album from Montreal’s Taxi Girls. Formed in 2022, the band released their debut EP ‘Coming Up Roses‘ in 2023 but this full length release gives the band a chance to show how tight and creative they’ve become across 13 punchy tracks. There’s a subtle mix of influences from across the alt-spectrum on ‘Static‘ including grunge, garage rock and a fuzzy 90s indie but each track is infused with infectious melody and ultra cool vocals from dual vocalists Jamie Radu and Vera. There’s no filler here, each track is as strong as the last one but our standouts are ‘Say It!‘, ‘Kill Your Darlings‘ and ‘Secret Handshake‘. The album is out NOW and you can stream/buy HERE.
