It’s been a hot minute but we’re back with a selection of new tunes!
OK, so we’ve had a bit of a hiatus in terms of bringing together new music for you BUT let’s not dwell on that because we’re back this week and have some real gems to bring to your attention. So let’s get to it!
The Bad Ups- ‘Ego Trip‘
I am absolutely LOVING this song! Philadelphia four piece the Bad Ups started in 2018 and effortlessly blend the sound of 90s/00s punk with the rhythms of ska and reggae. This new single has that great American pop/skate punk sound that’s perfect for Summer. Taken from their forthcoming new LP ‘Life Of Sin’ (out 27/09) ‘Ego Trip’ is a great ambassador track for the new album, if the rest of the album is full of bangers like this then that’s gonna be a top pick of 2024. Cathedral Ceilings- ‘Bill Berry‘
New Jersey power trio Cathedral Ceilings have released this fab new single ‘Bill Berry’ from their forthcoming album ‘La La La…Whatever!’ out on 6/9 via Dromedary Records. The new single is a musical homage to the mixtape era with guitarist and vocalist Ralph Malanga saying of the track “‘Bill Berry’ is like a snapshot of a classic mixtape: upbeat, featuring a fantastic walking bass line from Tommy, catchy melodies, and a soaring chorus. Bill Berry, REM’s drummer, was a staple on my mixtapes”. It’s certainly got a relentless energy, absolutely packed with melody and pace. Naked Giants- ‘Bad Guys Win‘
Seattle-based trio Naked Giants release a new single to be taken from their forthcoming third album ‘Shine Away’ (out 4/10 via Devil Duck Records). ‘Bad Guys Win’ is described by vocalist/guitarist Grant Mullen as a powerful pop rock anthem for the 2020s. The song explores themes of feeling powerless and the struggle to overcome internal and external adversaries. In just over 2 and a half minutes, it’s a rousing garage rock track with a build up reminiscent of great 90s fuzzy college rock. You can stream the track HERE and pre order ‘Shine Away‘ HERE.
Monkie Mind- ‘Surrealio‘
Monkie Mind are the answer to the question, what if the North East of the UK was the centre of pop punk? Formed in 2018, the punk trio from Newcastle have been bringing a little bit of Cali-style melodic punk to Britain. And it’s great news that their track ‘Surrealio‘ is available on streaming platforms this week, it’s the perfect feel good track for August. As well as being a fun banger of a track, the song boasts an impressive accompanying video that sees the band frolicking about an art gallery. Make sure you stream ‘Surrealio‘ HERE.
Sincere Engineer- ‘I Hate Myself‘
Chicago’s Sincere Engineer has contributed a fantastic cover of 88 Fingers Louie’s track ‘I Hate Myself‘ for the Hopeless Records 30th Anniversary compilation. ‘Hopelessly Devoted To You‘ sees members of their current roster reimagine the label’s iconic smash hits in their own unique style. Deanna Belos (who performs as Sincere Engineer) says she picked the song to “pay respects to the 90s Chicago punk scene, it’s always been super influential for me“. The album will also feature recordings by The Wonder Years, Bayside and Pinkshift. But Belos’ ragged and emotional vocal delivery in this stripped back acoustic track is likely to be a firm favourite.
