This is the part of the site where I pick a selection of new releases that have been on my radar! Including bands/tracks that are ‘new to me’ i.e. I’m way late discovering them but better late than never!
Lambrini Girls- ‘Body Of Mine’
Lambrini Girls are just absolutely smashing it with everything they do, and this new single is a perfect example of the formula they have that makes them such a vital part of the UK punk scene. Musically, they’re fast, abrasive with a rollicking sense of fun and a ‘no shitheads’ attitude….lyrically they’re socially and politically incisive exposing double standards, hypocrisy and general shitty behaviour. New track ‘Body of Mine’ expresses the frustrations, contradictions and indignities of expressing your gender identity and finding where you fit in.
Broken Lungs- ‘Pity Party’
Birmingham hardcore punk band Broken Lungs have a new EP out- ‘Love is Temporary and So Are We’ – and I’m loving the single ‘Pity Party’. It is what you want hardcore to be- a loud, powerful shake to the shoulders with screamo vocals and some nice breakdowns, a good homage to hardcore punk crossover bands of the 2000s.
Technopolice- ‘Mediterranean Boy’
There is some really great music in the French indie/punk scene with bands like Future Exes, Nick Heywood, Nasty Joe….and now I’ll add Technopolice to the list. They’ve released an EP last month- ‘In Your Pocket’- and this is one of the singles which does a good job of demonstrating what they offer- angular post-punk garage rock with sharp riffs and a laid back vocal. Check them out.
Hermetic Delight- ‘Ankara Punk’
How about something a little more floaty and melodic? Since first hearing this track by Strasbourg-based Hermetic Delight it has been constantly in my head. Combining a dreamy melody with layers of indie and shoegaze-y vibes, it’s a gentle Spring-into-Summer track when your ears need a break from throbbing hardcore and just want to hear vocalist Zeynep Kaya lilt us into a dream.
The band have been going for just over 10 years and after the release of their album ‘F.A Cult’ (2020) they are back with a series of singles. ‘Ankara Punk’ follows up ‘Inci’ and ‘Lust For Life’ with more singles planned this year.
And an oldie…..but new to me……
Cosmit- ‘Somebody’s Man’
Couple of years late to this but this Bristol band’s brand of scrappy garage rock is right up my street and this song is now forever added to my playlists.
